EQIDIUS – A Name with History!
My name is Ján Sudimák, and I am the proud owner of Eqidius Kennel, dedicated to breeding German Shepherds for many years. Canine science is not just my profession – it is my passion and life's mission.
As a judge, breeder, and German Shepherd expert, my goal is not only to produce healthy and well-balanced dogsbut also to continuously deepen my knowledge of this exceptional breed. I closely follow its development, study pedigrees, and focus on training and education to ensure that my dogs are not only beautiful but also functional – just as the breed's founders intended.
Throughout my years of breeding, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most prestigious German Shepherd bloodlines, gaining valuable experience that I share in my book, "German Shepherd – Simply Amazing."
This book is designed for anyone who wants to better understand the world of German Shepherds – whether you are an owner, breeder, or simply an admirer of this incredible breed.
Why the German Shepherd?
Thanks to its exceptional temperament and natural beauty, the German Shepherd has become one of the most widespread and respected breeds in the world. Its intelligence, resilience, and courage, along with its ability to work under extreme conditions, make it the ultimate versatile dog.
Sharp-minded and eager to work
Fearless, tough, and alert
Enduring and highly trainable
Protective with a strong guarding instinct
Reliable in various roles – from companionship to service work
The German Shepherd excels as a companion, working dog, sport dog, police and military dog, guide dog, rescue dog, fearless guardian, and even a livestock protector. These qualities, which I described in the History of the German Shepherd section of my book "German Shepherd – Simply Amazing", inspired me to establish my own breeding program.
The Birth of Eqidius Kennel
In 1973, driven by my admiration for this breed, I applied for a protected kennel name. On May 25, 1973, I was officially granted the kennel name "Egidius". My foundation female, Kate z Poldomu, was an outstanding dog both in structure and character. Through her daughter Blume Egidius, followed by Gora, Ida Egidius, Arne Egidius, and Xilla Egidius, I built my working line of German Shepherds.
In 1999, following an FCI reevaluation of kennel names, Egidius was officially renamed to EQIDIUS on November 25, 1999.
My Breeding Philosophy
My mission has always been to breed mentally and physically healthy German Shepherds that embody both beauty and performance.
"Through beauty to performance – through performance to beauty."
This is the core principle of Eqidius Kennel and the driving force behind my lifelong passion for the German Shepherd breed.
